HSBC and Standard Chartered plan Dim Sum Bond issues in Singapore

HSBC and Standard Chartered Bank are planning to sell yuan-denominated bonds, or so-called dim sum debt, in Singapore after the city-state launched its own yuan-clearing system. The new system will enable freer trading of the yuan in Singapore. Previously, most of the trading was handled through mainland or Hong Kong-based banks. Singapore is set to compete with other trading hubs such as Taipei, Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, London and Luxembourg in a market estimated to worth up to 360 billion yuan.
